Literally translating to “Islands of the Haida people,” Haida Gwaii is an archipelago on the north coast of British Columbia, with islands that are separated from the BC mainland to the east by Hecate Strait. With Vancouver Island to the south across Queen Charlotte Sound and the U.S. state of Alaska to the north across the disputed Dixon Entrance, Haida Gwaii consists of two main islands: Graham in the north and Moresby in the south, along with approximately 150 smaller islands. Indeed, those who have visited these islands know firsthand of their rugged wilderness with canopied forests of giant red cedars and Sitka Spruce, as well as the abundance of marine life in the surrounding North Pacific.
Butiq Escapes can book a helicopter charter that lets you explore the many remote rivers and streams to fish or hike, or just beachcomb on the rugged west side of the islands. From the air, the views of the old growth forests and ancient Haida villages are simply spectacular, and really need to be experienced to be believed.
